Okay you ended up here, because you think Rogers is charging for tethering Not yet, but mark your calendar. Rogers will start charging for tethering on May 3rd.

Tethering is when you use your phone as a modem to browse the Internet this comes in handy when you want to browse stuff on your laptop

  1. Hook up your phone to the laptop via USB
  2. Browse away

Now rogers wants to charge for this. Currently rogers is not charging for this service for anyone that is subscribing to 1GB+ data plan. After may 3rd,2010 rogers will examine options for tethering.

This service was supposed be charging Dec 31st, 2009 but now has been extended. This is a very important as more smaller tables hit the market.

I agree with this somehow for people that are downloading torrents and leeching itunes to charge them but for someone that simply wants to read his Globe & Mail on bigger screen is ot fair.

Maybe one alternative on Rogers side could be to start filtering certain ports if they are worried about tethering abuse. It seems like carriers are giving out services free to get people hooked on them and after device to start charging for it. In my opinion the cell phone carrier market will always be emptying out our packets here in (Canada) until it is somehow less regulated by the CRTC.
