So after all there is something for free in Canada. A new company is being launched in Canada called FreeHD Canada.

FreeHD applied to CRTC for a licence and seeking approval in early 2011, so there is still a long time to wait. The way this will work you will buy a satellite dish and equipment from FreeHD.

By buying the equipment you will receive local channels in HD for free, but will also have the option to buy other premium HD channels.

FreeHD Canada claims you will receive up to 10-15 channels within your region with the equipment, premium channel are so to include about 150 Canadian channels.

FreeHD says there premium packages will be very competitive. Channels will be provided in 1080p. The important part is if the CRTC will issue them a license, I don't see a problem with this unless CRTC decides to pull a rabbit out of the hat trick.

This company is based out of Thornhill, Ontario. I am not sure how they plan to compete with Bell ExpressVU but competition is coming harder and harder in Canada. Also IPTV is another threat to satellite TV.

I just want to see price drops in Canada, in a industry that is tightly controlled by CRTC.
